Anthology #3. Another book of Leona's contemporary "songs" but on a potpourri of themes, aspects of her spiritual journey through the years. Included are poems written during travels in China and Israel. The author probes the meaning of daily experiences as they relate to the One who is the center of her life--Jesus Christ. The poems reflect her emotions, questions, struggles, joys and common ups and downs of life.
Leona's poetry is a private, yet shared emotional and spiritual expression of her life adventures. She calls her life a "pilgrimage," as David did in Psalm 119:54, and her poems "songs," as he did. She echoes Scripture in referring to the Christian as a temporary resident on planet Earth while being a permanent citizen of a kingdom not of this world--the Kingdom of God. This book is, in a sense, Leona's book of 83 Psalms.
A sample: Barren Pen
I write to express my soul
etch joys in ink
distill tears in print
give shape to dreams
deliver pregnant thoughts.
When I am full
I sing, I write
my heart overflows
I cannot restrain
my prolific pen.
When I am empty
my soul lies limp
my heart is sterile
blank paper stares at me
my thoughts lie covered
by a blanket of snow
I languish, passive and stagnant
scarce noting the passing
of futile, flat days.
Impotent and unproductive
my spirit wanders
in a desert wasteland.
Lord, save me from a barren pen!
Deliver my mind from its empty womb.
Let me bear Your thoughts
into life as I birth them
through my ready pen.
(Psalm 45:1)
