Life--Stop Crowding Me!

By Leona Choy

Anthology #1 of Leona's contemporary poems for those in their prime-time of life who are enjoying (and perhaps struggling through) their "seasoned" years. Leona couples subtle humor and thoughtful biblical principles in an intriguing way.

She explores the gamut of moods, attitudes, fears and frustrations--then generously offers hope and joy. Leona grapples with questions like life dreams, fulfillment or lack of it, increasing limitations, unattainable goals, time running out and crowding us into a corner. She leans into hard questions in her poems, like the increasing desire to freeze our happy moments in time, fear that we haven't "finished" yet--and apprehension about what is around the bend in life.

Some poems are prayers, others are dialogues with Deity, some are hymns of praise like the Davidic psalms. Some pose questions and explore answers. She truly communicates with genuine spiritual depth and insight, reaching the heart of her reader, touching him where he lives day by day.

Her theme is, "Life may be crowding us, but God has still given us TODAY! As we celebrate each day of life as a gift from God, we may find ourselves adding more of life's pages in full color!"

Many of her poems have been read over the air on Leona's radio programs and also on the Nightsounds radio program.

An excerpt from the poem:
Lost Centerfold
. . . .
What happened to middle age?
Somehow, when I arrived
it wasn't there!
That isn't fair . . .
I seem to have leaped
from young to old.
Where is that oversize centerfold
of prime time I counted on
to fulfill all my dreams?

The tomorrow I eagerly planned
vanished into the past tense
without my sense of having lived it.
The face that stares back
at me in the mirror
has already done its living . . .
but when? Where was I
when it happened?
. . . .
